Natural gas is an attractive fuel because it is clean burning and efficient, and because ample supplies of natural gas have been available from domestic resources and from Canada. Throughout the 1990s, these factors and the low cost of natural gas helped lead to increased investment in facilities using natural gas.

The Impacts of Natural Gas Prices on the California Economy: Final Report (Feb. 2006)

The objective of this study is to assess the impacts on the California economy of changes in natural gas prices. Since California is more dependent on natural gas as a source of energy than are most other states, a continuing concern is the negative economic effect that a longterm, sustained rise in the price of natural gas could have on its economy.
