PORTLAND, Ore. – Bradwood Landing Senior Vice President for External Affairs Joe Desmond had the following comment regarding the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s decision today to grant a rehearing request “for the limited purpose of further consideration:”
“Bradwood Landing has consistently stated that it will comply with all applicable local, state and federal standards.”
“Today’s decision by FERC allows more time for the review process to continue before a final determination is made on recent requests for a rehearing. This is entirely consistent with our motion filed last week that FERC delay taking final action on rehearing requests until state and federal agencies complete their review process.”
“During this period, our certificate order granted by FERC on September 18 remains in effect and the project continues to move forward. We’re pleased with today’s decision, which does not delay the project in any way. A similar approach has been taken by FERC in the past with other LNG applications to resolve issues related to the timing of state and federal permits.”
The Bradwood Landing LNG terminal and its associated 36.3 mile pipeline will provide a new source of natural gas directly into the Oregon and Washington natural gas market. It will create more than 450 jobs over three years of construction and 65 permanent jobs while contributing more than $7.8 million annually in taxes to Clatsop County.
In addition, the macro-economic effects will be dramatic. A 2007 analysis of Bradwood’s impact conducted by University of Oregon Professor Philip Romero showed that increased gas supply from Bradwood would support increased regional employment of between 5,100 and 20,300 jobs, reduce the regional wholesale price of natural gas by 13 percent, and increase household income by $51 - $214 per family of four.
As the only FERC-approved U.S. West Coast LNG terminal, Bradwood Landing will begin construction in 2009 and be operational by 2012.
